Darren at ProBlogger breaks out some quick math for all fledgling full-time bloggers. If you want to make blogging your career, and you are cool with making just $30k during Year One, then your blogging revenue goal should be $82.19 per day.

More from ProBlogger:

$30,000 USD still sounds big when you’re a new blogger – and in some ways it is. However there are different ways of thinking about that figure. Lets break it down in the way that I used to look at my target.

$30,000 a year = $576.92 per week

$30,000 a year = $82.19 a day

$30,000 a year = $3.42 an hour

We could break it down on a monthly or on a minute by minute basis if we wanted to (in fact I did do it by minute from time to time for fun) – but the exercise is really about helping you to see that perhaps your big goal is a little more achievable if you are to break it down. Making $82.19 somehow seems a little bit easier to me than making $30,000 (or is that just me?).

OK – the other way that I used to break down my goal that I found really helpful to me was to do it based upon what I need to achieve to meet that target. For me I would usually look at the daily figure – in this case $82.19.

In Creating Dynamic Menus, instructor Bill Weinman explores the skills and techniques necessary for developing interactive menu structures for the web. After reviewing a number of examples from the real world, Bill defines the prerequisites and components needed to build dynamic structures for the web, including XHTML, CSS, and JavaScript. He works through the construction of everything from a simple, unordered list in XHTML to a robust menu with CSS. He also covers placement and formatting, and shows how to use visibility and opacity to create a more polished look for a final menu. Exercise files accompany this course.

Google Browser Size is a visualization of browser window sizes for people who visit Google. For example, the “90%” contour means that 90% of people visiting Google have their browser window open to at least this size or larger.

This is useful for ensuring that important parts of a page’s user interface are visible by a wide audience. On the example page that you see when you first visit this site, there is a “donate now” button which falls within the 80% contour, meaning that 20% of users cannot see this button when they first visit the page. 20% is a significant number; knowing this fact would encourage the designer to move the button much higher in the page so it can be seen without scrolling.
